My film group and I are working on a new project This new movie that we re working on is called Perfection It s a film about a girl who bullies her gay best friend to the point of suicide The purpose of the movie is to address bullying Going further it address bullying in high school For some reason people get this idea in their head that they need to strive for perfection Which in the right context can be a wonderful thing The literal definition of perfection is the condition state or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects Perfection is to use a clich in the eyes of the beholder It s not something that is supposed to be compared o society s standards because that would make obtaining it impossible When we re little were taught to check in our closets and under our beds for monsters to come But as you get older you stop Maybe we stop having the pulsing desire to check for monsters under our bed when we realize that they re inside of us Movie quote It s us that do this to ourselves Society can t harm us unless we allow it Everyone is expected to be skinny and have clear skin and perfect hair and straight teeth But whose to say that s what perfection is High school students face daily pressures to achieve in academics and obtain a high G P A They re pressured to excel in sports as well as being involved in as many after school activities as possible On top of all of that there is the peer pressure to drink and do drugs To be honest I can t really say I ve seen any bullying in my school I m sure it exists as we have had a few suicides but for the most part I m proud to say it s a very safe and supportive environment The movie is the story of the bully It s the story of her downward spiral and why she did what she did Casey the bully loses her best friend experiences the social pressures of high school and ultimately bullies her best friend to death At the end of the film you realize that the whole thing has been a flashback Casey is being convicted 3rd degree assault unfortunately a bullying case just went through the supreme court involving a situation similar to this where a child was bullied to the point of suicide and it was deemed that bullies cannot be convicted of murder which is just dumb And she s telling her side of the story before the court As of right now I have the majority of it written and I m working with my film group to make sure that we ve got all of the scenes and shots planned out We ve had one successful day of filming and now we re trying to work through scheduling and location conflicts One of the group members is an incredible composer so he wrote the score and on Tuesday nights we rehearse with the chamber orchestra at our high school so we can have a live recorded score Once it s finished which won t be for quite a while because we re trying to make it the absolute best we can then we re hoping to work with Change in Action to present it to as many people as possible I m really excited about this project and hopefully it can make an impact
